Hosted by: Black Voter Outreach Network of PA (special thanks to John Maina!), African American Cultural Alliance of Lancaster, the League of Women Voters Lancaster County PA, Indivisible MT,  Indivisible LT,  Lancaster Stands Up

Location: Penn Square Lancaster

The candlelight vigil in downtown Lancaster was part of a a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.

On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we took action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble.

July 17 evening’s vigil on Penn Square was a beautiful movement moment!  Special thanks to Jamar Johnson for his beautiful singing and words, the incomparable Lenwood Sloan for his engaging history of John Lewis, amazing spoken word artist Saint, 12 year old Elyse Maina who read John Lewis’s words to us and the Rev. Atkins of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, ChurchTowne of Lancaster Pa who brought the fire and the power to our gathering. Nearly $1000 in donations was raised for Bethel and AACA.
