Lancaster Medicaid Rally, Wednesday April 16

Indivisible Manheim Township Posted on April 5, 2025 by bApril 20, 2025

Hosted by: The Service Employees International Union (SEIU)

Time: Wednesday April 16,  5:30-6:30 pm

Location: 1 Penn Square Lancaster PA 17602

Featuring Reps. Nikki Rivera and Izzy Smith Wade-El, this event will rally against cuts to Medicaid. The proposed $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid would blow a hole in PA’s state budget.  Cuts to Medicaid impact everyone who: has a kid in public school, has a parent in a nursing home, lives in a retirement community, wants strong hospitals to serve the community, has a family member with a disability, might one day lose a job or fall on hard times, might face an unexpected loss of coverage, might outlive their retirement savings and need nursing care. Medicaid is important to EVERYONE. Fight for it!

Reproductive Rights

Indivisible Manheim Township Posted on March 31, 2024 by bApril 15, 2025

Reproductive Rights Team’s Key Issues:
  1. PA FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act will be introduced soon by PA rep Lindsay Powell to ensure residents seeking reproductive health care can access clinics.  We can support passage.

  1. U.S. FACE Act – already a federal law which protects patients, providers, and health center staff from violence and harassment. It seeks to protect the facilities that provide reproductive health services, including pro-life pregnancy counseling services and any other pregnancy support facility providing reproductive health care. Trump  pardoned 23 individuals convicted of FACE Act  crimes. With President Trump pardoning FACE Act violators, it’s clear that his administration will not be enforcing this act.

  1. H.R. 21/S. 6. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is a purposefully misleading anti-abortion bill intended to target providers and interfere with medically necessary care. Passed House.  Did not get through Senate, but it is on the watch list.  They are trying bad things.

  1. Global HER Act / H.R. 764 / S.280 – This Act would end Trump’s Global Gag Rule and prevent any future president from unilaterally imposing it again. The Trump Administration reinstated the deadly global gag rule, an anti-abortion policy that risks the health and lives of women, girls, young people, and LGBTQ+ people in communities around the world. This gag rule disproportionately affects BIPOC people and prevents foreign organizations that receive certain US assistance from providing, counseling, referring, or advocating for legal abortion in their country. In essence, this policy has elected officials interfering in health care around the world, which can result in the spread of diseases and increased numbers of (what should be) preventable deaths.

LGBTQ+ Rights

Indivisible Manheim Township Posted on March 30, 2024 by bApril 24, 2025

Be an ally

An “ally” is someone who supports and advocates for a marginalized or underrepresented group, often those who are not members of that group themselves. They use their privilege and influence to challenge systemic biases and work towards equality and inclusion.

Trump’s  Efforts to Dehumanize Transgender People:

Trump signed all of the following anti-trans/LGBTQ+ executive orders:

  • Executive Order 14168, “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth To The Federal Government”. This order seeks to erase trans and nonbinary people, asserting that males and females “are not changeable.” This viewpoint ignores extensive scientific evidence.
  • “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness” not only bans transgender people from serving in the military but also insults and denies their existence entirely.
  • “Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” bans gender-affirming medical care, including puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgeries, for “children” under 19 (ignoring that 18-year-olds are legally adults). The prescription of puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors is rare, and surgery is even rarer. However, these treatments have life-saving effects.
  • “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling” withholds federal funds from schools that teach “gender ideology,” “equity ideology,” or support trans and nonbinary students in social transition (such as by using their name and pronouns correctly).

Furthermore, a list of priorities published to the official White House website asserts Trump plans to “bring back American values” by “establish[ing] male and female as biological reality and protect[ing] women from radical gender ideology.”

These egregious attempts to demonize and erase transgender people must be resisted!
